We went looking on a Saturday evening in August and found multiple possibilities easily. I was concerned about traveling during the summer with 3 kids and the fact that none of the campgrounds accept reservations, except Log Cabin. There are lots of campgrounds on the Olympic Penninsula. If you are looking for a peaceful place to pitch a tent, we eventually found one, for free, in the Hoh valley. If you are in a motorhome or bus and like the lively, noisy camping scene then the lake is gorgeous and you'll have a good time. The front desk clerk was VERY nice and, while the owner lady was not happy with him, refunded our money and we left. Our "lovely" spot was a bumpy partial grass spotted slot between motor homes, no where near the waters edge and absolutely no view, well.maybe a little between the 2 rows of camp spots in front of us. We made our reservation months in advance and were assured of a lovely spot. We had asked for a lakeside view tent spot because we were bringing our kayaks. We arrived after a long day of a ferry from British Columbia and a drive along Hwy101 to the lake. So, for those of you who would like to pitch a tent on the shores of Lake Crescent, this place is NOT for you. I searched in vain for any reviews on the Log Cabin resort's "campground" before we left on our trip, but found none. When I learn it is under new management and that all rooms have been remodeled, I will check it out again. If you have an RV, this may be a good place to park it, but I'm not sure. A young who stayed next door was giggling and taking pictures so she would have a permanent record of how dilapidated the place is. When I lifted the lid to the toilet, it fell to the floor, and the bathroom was otherwise so unappetizing that we considered going without a shower. The other furniture appears to have been purchased at garage sales, and the chalet had not been painted or otherwise repaired for many years. The beds were the most uncomfortable we have encountered in many years of travel. The main room is dominated by a clumsy staircase to a tiny loft. ![]() Unfortunately, at $169 a night the A-frame "chalet" we rented was truly laughable. From our "chalet" we had one of the most beautiful views in The Olympic National Park. ![]() The setting of Log Cabin Resort rivals that of Lake Crescent Lodge. We would probably stay there again if we were in the area. The camping store has a few things, but don't expect much. Others tried dinner another night and thought the food was good. We did have to find someone to help us with ordering, but when the food arrived, everyone raved. ![]() We tried breakfast one morning and this was a bit chaotic. I was surprised by how close the campers were from our rooms, but we were hardly inside our chalet to notice. I didn't even know there was water access- many people were using the beaches. No, they have not updated this place- but why? This is a place to go to get away from everything and to enjoy the views. The Log Cabin Resort is very rustic and very, very clean. I did give 3 stars because the place was very average- but there really wasn't anything missing either. This is not a five star hotel by any means, nor would you expect such a place in the middle of national forest/park. When I got there, I was unsure why people were writing bad things about this place. We booked an A frame chalet for 2 nights. After reading all the reviews, I was a bit worried. ![]()
